Liposuction Surgery in New Jersey

You know how it goes: you work out; you eat well. No matter what you do, there are still parts of your body that refuse to shape up. You’ve heard about liposuction, you’ve thought about liposuction, and you’ve finally decided to learn more about it to see if it could help in your trouble areas.

Well, liposuction was made for those trouble areas that nothing else seems to fix. And it’s not just limited to tummies and thighs. Liposuction can fix necks that waddle, arms that wobble, buns that wiggle, as well as hips, saddlebags, backs, and just about anything else that seems to accumulate stubborn fat deposits.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction began to gather popularity in the 80′s and it hasn’t slowed down since. Instead it has become more efficient, safer, and less invasive. Procedures such as the tumescent technique, which injects local anesthesia into the area to be treated, actually minimize bleeding and swelling, speeding up the healing time.

Millions have had liposuction and can attest to its powerful positive ramifications from achieving the body they always wanted. Of course, diet and exercise will always remain the number one way to stay in shape and get the look you want. But when you suffer from localized fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise, liposuction can be the answer.

What is the traditional liposuction procedure?

All procedures begin with a consultation with Dr. Volshteyn. Here, your doctor can find out about your medical history and current medications as well as your goals and objectives for having liposuction. Be sure to bring up any questions you may have, as well.

Most Liposuction procedures are performed on an out-patient basis. However, if you are having extensive liposuction, you may need to spend the night in the hospital. As mentioned above, the tumescent technique injects a solution of local anesthesia into the area that will be treated. This minimizes bleeding, bruising and swelling, as well as enabling Dr. Volshteyn to be more precise. Small incisions are made and a cannula, which is attached to a vacuum-like machine, is inserted to suction out the unwanted fat.  Most Liposuction procedures take about one to two hours.

You will be given a compression garment or bandage to wear for one to two weeks. This will help to minimize swelling and promote healing. You may also be advised to have several Endermology treatments to improve your result. Endermology is a technique that squeezes the fat and skin, eliminating swelling, and evens out the surface of the skin after liposuction. Another benefit to Endermology is that it improves the cellulite dimples on the skin.

What are the potential risks and complications of traditional liposuction?

All surgeries have some inherent risks and your physician will go over these with you in the consultation. Most common risks include excessive bruising swelling, and infection as well as irregularities such as dimpling and loose skin. Some people experience numbness after liposuction. Typically, numbness slowly goes away over a six-month period.

What can I expect after a traditional liposuction procedure?

It is necessary to take it extremely easy the first few days after any surgery. You should rest as much as you can, as well as follow any post-op instructions from your physician. You will wear your compression garment or bandage for up to two weeks. If your job doesn’t require any strenuous activity, you should return to work in about a week, though some patients may require more time to rest. Usually workouts and all activities can be resumed four to six weeks following surgery.
