Microdermabrasion Treatments in New Jersey

If we asked everyone who wanted younger-looking skin to raise their hands, you’d see just about everyone you know with their hands in the air. Our skin — especially the skin on our faces — can convey many things and almost all of them have to do with age and health.

Luckily there are more and more treatments available to help keep your skin at its optimum level of healthy glow and creamy smoothness. There are several factors that can help determine which procedure is the best for you: skin damage from the elements (sun, wind), dynamic wrinkles, visible blood vessels, rough patches, or uneven skin pigmentation. We probably don’t need to spell it out to you — who isn’t very familiar with the state of their skin? Yet all of these things can help to determine which procedure is right for you.

Microdermabrasion is a great solution for those who are looking for something more than just a daily or weekly skin care regime but less than a chemical or laser peel. Microdermabrasion can lessen the look of wrinkles, slough off dead, dull skin layers, even out pigmentation, and give an overall healthy, rosy glow to your skin. All of this and it’s non-invasive to boot, no downtime, very little recovery time, no oozing, and best of all, it will not break the bank.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a treatment that is normally performed by an aesthetician and it is very important that you find someone with experience and knowledge. At Atlantic Surgical Associates our highly trained expert staff performs microdermabrasion.

Tiny micro-crystals are applied to your skin with a hand piece. The hand piece does two things. First, the micro-crystals slough off layers of dead, dry, dull, lackluster skin as it moves over your facial area. Then, the hand piece suctions up the old dead skin along with the micro-crystals revealing glowing, healthy, youthful-looking new skin. An added option is to have a light acid applied to the skin after treatment for even more benefits. The entire treatment is normally completed in less than an hour — that means you could do it on your lunch hour or right after work. And while your skin may look red for about an hour or so after the treatment, there is no reason why you would not be able to return to your normal daily routine.

What are the potential risks and complications of microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion has fewer risks and complications since it is a non-invasive treatment. It is a safe treatment with proven results. However, all procedures come with some level of risk for complications. For Microdermabrasion these include hyperpigmentation, bleeding, skin perforation and infection. However, these complications are rare. More common is a feeling of dryness or tightness in the skin that will diminish after a few days.

Some are not good candidates for microdermabrasion. If you have had a recent herpes outbreak (or are having a herpes outbreak at the time of your appointment), or have warts, severe acne, or active rosacea, you should wait before having microdermabrasion performed. Talk to your doctor or aesthetician about your condition and they can help you determine a better time to undergo microdermabrasion. Other conditions that can hinder having microdermabrasion performed are undiagnosed lesions, unstable diabetes and auto-immune disorders.

What can I expect after microdermabrasion?

After microdermabrasion you should follow all instructions very carefully. If you are serious about keeping a youthful appearance, you should minimize sun exposure, eat healthy foods, learn stress management techniques, and stop smoking. There are many actions to take every day to promote health and vitality – both for our internal organs as well as for the largest organ of our body: our skin. Your skin can really say a lot about you and we are here to help you make sure that everything it says is wonderful!
